The Day We Named It ‘Steins Gate’
Episode 04 “The Day We Named It ‘Steins Gate’”
Future Gadget Lab Devlog — Building Gadget No.6, the Steins Gate Simulator
Published: May 23 (Sat), 2026 / JST 07:00
A name fixes a Worldline
The night the idea of three parallel Worldlines was sealed,
a small memo remained on the lab’s whiteboard.
STEINS GATE SIMULATOR
The next morning, when the lab members saw it, their mouths moved in unison.
“— There is nothing else, is there?”
In that moment, Gadget No.6 fixed its name into a Worldline:
Steins Gate Simulator.
Why this name?
The director pointed at the whiteboard and explained.
“Steins Gate — it means the single point where multiple Worldlines converge. What Gadget No.6 attempts to do matches this perfectly: observe three parallel Worldlines and present their convergence point as a recommended route. The name aligns one-to-one with the function.”
Amadeus Tina added a layer of data.
“Let me reinforce. ‘Steins Gate’ is a universal proper noun for search. A code name that captures meaning and SEO at the same time — perfect.”
The naming ritual
At 9 a.m., all lab members gathered in front of the whiteboard.
A thick marker added a firm line.
GADGET No.6 / STEINS GATE SIMULATOR
Each lab member nodded and signed beneath it.
Daru : “Yappy. Nice name.”
Mayushii : “The sound is just a little bit cool.”
Suzuha : “Story and function — they overlap exactly.”
Faris : “Could even be used as the sales name, nya.”
Final inheritance of the series worldview
The Future Gadget Laboratory has named its gadgets with Steins;Gate echoes before:
Centennial Divergencer, D-Mail Rewriter, and others.
The “Steins Gate Simulator” of Gadget No.6 occupies the top position of the series — placing the original term itself, not just an echo, on its own gadget.
It was the proof that Gadget No.6, agreed unanimously by the lab, would stand as the integration of all five previous gadgets.
A quiet foreshadowing
In front of the whiteboard, someone murmured softly.
“The code name is decided. Implementation — should have proceeded smoothly —”
In the lab, the scent of freshly brewed coffee lingered, quietly.
